For a suburban area, Katy has incredible outdoor spaces. Here's every park, trail, and nature spot worth visiting with kids.

๐ŸŒณ Must-Visit Parks

Mary Jo Peckham Park โ€” The crown jewel. 32 acres with playground, fishing lake, disc golf, putting green, walking trails, and seasonal splash pad. Free parking, free entry. The fishing pond is stocked and kid-friendly โ€” no license needed for kids under 17.

Katy City Park โ€” 6 ADA-accessible lighted tennis courts, covered basketball pavilion, soccer fields, baseball fields, walking paths, and an all-inclusive playground designed for special needs. Open daily 5amโ€“11pm. Free.

Exploration Park (Cinco Ranch) โ€” Skatepark, large multi-level playground, basketball courts, walking trails. The skatepark is one of the few in the area and draws older kids.

๐Ÿž๏ธ Nature & Trails

Katy Heritage Park โ€” Paved walking trails through preserved prairie. Picnic areas, historical markers, pavilion. Quiet and uncrowded. Great for stroller walks and toddler exploration.

Katy Prairie Conservancy โ€” Guided birding tours, prairie walks, and nature education programs. The Warren Ranch tract offers scheduled public tours. A real outdoor classroom for kids interested in wildlife.

Paul D. Rushing Park โ€” 100 acres with sports fields, batting cages, and enough open green space for kites, frisbee, and running around. The pavilion is reservable for parties.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Water Features

LaCenterra Splash Pad โ€” Interactive water features right at the outdoor shopping center. Shopping, dining, and splash pad in one trip.

Grand Lakes Splash Pad โ€” Open to the public, adjacent playground. Less crowded than LaCenterra.

Cross Creek Ranch Splash Pads โ€” Multiple playground areas with splash features, 3-story playscape, musical elements. Community access.

Cullen Park Splash Pad โ€” Misting flowers, surprise geysers. One of the best free public splash pads near Katy.

๐Ÿฆ… Hidden Gems

Falcon Ranch Splash Pad (Fulshear) โ€” Neighborhood splash pad perfect for toddlers. Less traffic than the bigger spots.

Fort Bend County Parks โ€” Multiple county parks with cricket fields, soccer fields, and open green space. Check fortbendcountytx.gov for the full map.

Pro Tip: Mary Jo Peckham Park on a weekday morning is practically a private park. Weekends get crowded by 10am, especially in spring and fall. Bring bug spray โ€” it's still Texas.
